BBC Breakfast was slammed for ‘running out of material’ as viewers clashed over a seemingly divisive food report.
Sally Nugent and Jon Kay took to the airwaves to welcome viewers to the mid-week edition of the popular morning show.
However, the BBC Breakfast pair may have been caught up in somewhat of a frenzy online.
The show aired a pre-recorded report of white loafs that are nutritionally boosted like wholewheat, whilst they still maintain the taste.
This then sparked a debate between Sally, 52, and Jon, 54, when it cut back to the iconic red sofa.
After the report, they discussed the different dialect names for small rolls as Sally even mentioned how some people call them “bread cakes”.
Jon even recalled a story when one person ordered a roll using the former term, and ended up being served a tea cake, much to Sally’s horror.
However, viewers just could not agree as they took to X – formerly known as Twitter – with their own thoughts.
One viewer raged: “Anyone who uses the word cake in the name for a simple bread roll is quite simply a f****** idiot #BBCBreakfast.”
Another stated: “Bread Rolls… Clues in the titles Jon #BBCBreakfast.”
“#bbcbreakfast it’s a bread roll,” said a third.
Whilst a fourth simply commented: “Bread roll #BBCBreakfast.”
Whilst a fifth BBC fan completely disagreed: “#bbcbreakfast They’re called baps..”
But one viewer couldn’t help but slam the publicly funded corporation for the segment, as they claimed they were ‘running out of material’.
They noted: “They’re clearly running out of material on #BBCBreakfast seeng a they’re asking what you call a bread roll where you live.”
The viewer added: “It doesn’t matter, call it what you want. It’s a Facebook meme put on telly.”
