ENGLAND’S Euros 2024 campaign begins tonight, but don’t worry if you’re not a footie fan as there’s plenty else to enjoy on TV.
This includes Dick and Angel Strawbridge concluding their travels around France, and their final episode has a real fairy-tale feel to it.
They head deep into the country’s rural heartland – the volcanic area of the Auvergne.
It’s one of France’s least-populated regions, with very few visitors, but its rugged beauty is breathtaking.
Here are TV Mag’s six telly picks for Sunday 16 June 2024…
Secret France with Dick and Angel (7pm C4)
The Strawbridges are in the Auvergne in midwinter, so the snowy setting adds a magical touch tonight. In the city of Clermont-Ferrand, a volcanic labyrinth beneath its streets houses an oh-so-French cellar bar, which is by appointment only.
In Thiers, a hillside town known as the capital of cutlery, Dick and Angel are welcomed into an atelier where one-off pocket knives are made.
And in the historic spa town of Vichy, the pair take the waters and are transported to the Roaring Twenties thanks to the opulence on display. Magnifique.
Euros 2024: Serbia v England (7pm BBC1)
England’s latest attempt to lay the ghosts of 1966 to rest begins against Serbia at the Veltins-Arena in Gelsenkirchen in tonight’s Euro 2024 match.
Gareth Southgate’s star-studded squad should have too much for the Serbs, who are managed by Red Star Belgrade legend Dragan Stojkovic, but the group stages have thrown up bigger shocks in the past.
Love Island: Aftersun (10pm ITV2)
After a fortnight of flirting, flings, dumpings and bombshells – we’re still not over Joey Essex’s surprise entrance – host Maya Jama is digging into all the latest Love Island gossip with Sam Thompson, Indiyah Polack and Chris Taylor.
Plus, Winter Love Island favourites Will Young and Jessie Wynter will be present to hear the hot exclusives from villa life, as well as interviews with the latest evictees.
Hudson & Rex (7pm Alibi)
Always delivering a satisfying mystery while never taking itself too seriously, this Canadian police procedural is perfect Sunday-evening telly.
In tonight’s double bill, Detective Charlie Hudson is frantic when his German shepherd dog partner Rex goes missing while investigating a champion horse theft.
Then, our dynamic duo reopen a convicted killer’s case when he resorts to drastic measures to avoid deportation.
Shetland: Scotland’s Wondrous Isles (9pm C5)
A huge part of Shetland’s beauty is its 1700 mile rugged coastline, so it’s no surprise that many of the locals are keen to take advantage and have become avid rowers, as tonight’s episode reveals.
Cameras follow those who take part in Shetland’s hugely competitive race featuring yoal boats – a traditional local boat, which originated in Norway.
Among them are Laura, who’s a member of the Hamnavoe club, and is determined that she and her team will win – even in spite of a storm that delays it.
A great snapshot of life in Shetland.
The Life And Murder Of Nicole Brown Simpson (9pm C&I)
OJ Simpson’s death in April reignited memories of his 1995 murder trial which sensationally gripped America.
This haunting four-part documentary tells the life story of Simpson’s ex-wife Nicole, who in June 1994 was brutally killed alongside her friend Ron Goldman.
Fifty interviewees share their memories and perspectives, including Nicole’s three sisters and her close friends Kris Jenner and Faye Resnick.
