UPSET viewers of the BBC’s This Town have ‘boycotted’ the show and aired their grievances about the drama’s storyline.

Written by Peaky Blinders creator Steven Knight, the six-part series takes place in the 1980s across Coventry, Belfast and Birmingham.

Starring Levi Brown and Michelle Dockery, among others, the show follows a young poet named Dante who decides to start a band.

The drama is set against the backdrop of gang activity and violence.

The official synopsis of This Town reads: “An extended family and four young people are drawn into the world of ska and two-tone music, which exploded from the grassroots of Coventry and Birmingham in the late 70s and early 80s which united black, white and Asian youths.”

The show explores social unrest, with young people fighting to choose their own paths.

However a number of viewers expressed their disappointment after the latest episode, with some going as far as to brand the show ‘ridiculous’.

One disgruntled viewer wrote: “It’s teetering on the verge of parody. And somebody give Dante a slap…”

Another penned: “Really had high hopes for #ThisTown but it’s f***ing s***e, finally gave up tonight.”

A third viewer added: “I only made one episode of #ThisTown.”

A fourth vented: “Okay, I give up. This is ridiculous.”

It comes as viewers previously took aim at the accents used in This Town, describing them as ‘fake’.

Many of the cast are not from the area and were required to learn the accent for their roles.

However, despite negative feedback from some viewers, others expressed their enjoyment of the drama.

One viewer praised the ‘great acting’ in This Town while another shared their joy at seeing Downton Abbey star Michelle Dockery on-screen.
